WHO IS ON YOUR LIST?
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings, be made for all people.-”
-1 Timothy 2:1
When it comes to intercessory prayer, we don’t have to wait for special prompts from the Spirit, but neither should we ignore them. God uses you and me to pray for other people and it makes a difference. Every day we can and should include our family, friends, church, and those who have needs of every kind, in our daily prayers. S.D. Gordon once wrote, “The greatest thing anyone can do for God and man is to pray. It is not the only thing. But, it is the chief thing.”

“And I said: ‘Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!’”
Nehemiah prayed, fasted, and repented when he was seeking God. David confessed his adultery. Isaiah saw his personal sin when he was in the presence of God. Each of them was forgiven. One of the beautiful truths our about God is His unfailing willingness to forgive sin. He forgave the Bible characters and He will forgive you. Effective prayer must include transparent confession of sin. Have you confessed your sin today?
“Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!” (Psalm 51:2)

THE WORD AND FAITH
Reading a portion of Scripture as a part of our daily meeting with God enhances our prayer time. Then, when we pray it is with more understanding, having just come from hearing God speak to our “inner man” through the words of the Bible. Like Isaiah, when the fire from the altar of heaven touched his lips, he was much more responsive to spiritual truth. As we respond to God after we have spent time in His word, our hearts are prepared to pray with greater faith. “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here I am! Send me.'” (Isaiah 6:8)
🔷 We are reading the entire New Testament together! If you have fallen behind keep reading and DO NOT STOP until you reach your goal!

HOW TO HELP OTHERS GROW
Jesus taught us by example to pray for the spiritual growth of others. With only hours left to live, Jesus poured His heart out to God for the spiritual health of His followers. His emphasis on other’s spiritual wellbeing should be the emphasis upper most in our minds as well, as we intercede. Think of it. Our prayer help others grow in Christ. Can you imagine a more important role for prayer? “Sanctify them in t
he truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.” (John 17:17-19)

PRAYER AND THE WILL OF GOD
“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1)
One error to avoid when praying for our own needs involves the distinction between needs and wants. When we pray for ourselves we should remember that God has a plan for us and not everything in life is included in that plan. God’s answer may be “no” to some things we seek. As has been frequently observed, “Nothing lies outside the reach of prayer except that which lies outside the will of God.” Remember, as you pray…God knows best!
🔷 We are reading Romans now- you’re doing great!
♦️Day 19: Romans 2 – 10

PRAYING LIKE JESUS
“Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25)
Jesus intercedes forever! The Lutheran evangelist Armin Gesswein once wrote, “God in His sovereign majesty has chosen to work by prayer. It is His eternal method. It is number one with Him. It was number one with Jesus when He was here on earth. He not only prayed about everything, He did everything by prayer. It is number one now with Jesus on the throne, where He ‘ever lives to make intercession for us’.” It is impossible to miss the significance of praying for others, especially when we recognize the importance Jesus Himself placed upon the ministry of intercession. With Him as the model, we realize we are never more like Jesus than when we are praying for others.
🔷 WE are reading the entire New Testament in 31 days- today we complete Acts and launch into the epistles. Don’t give up! We are getting there- you are on the path to victory if you keep going.

A LISTENING HEART
In his excellent book, Breakthrough Prayer, Jim Cymbala discusses the importance of developing an attentive heart in prayer. He uses the biblical example of young Samuel listening for the Lord’s voice as a model for our prayer lives. When Samuel said, “…Speak for your servant hears…” (1 Samuel 3:10), he revealed the secret God is after. An attentive, willing heart is what we need in order to hear God. Today, as you pray, listen for the voice of God. “Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good,
and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.” (Proverbs 16:20)
🔷 How are you doing in your reading as we read the entire New Testament in 31 Days? No matter where you are, don’t give up- the New Testament isn’t getting any longer- you can do this- just keep reading!
